Lunar eclipse and winter solstice

The last total eclipse of the moon on the winter solstice was 400 years ago and the next one will be in 2094, so this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and photograph the event. It was enhanced by snow and extreme cold.

Here are some of the images I captured of this morning's remarkable natural spectacle, shot from Bogton Braes, the hills rising to the south of Comrie in Perthshire, Scotland. Despite the extreme cold, I stayed long enough to see the rising sun's rays colour the hills to the west and north with a rosy glow.
