The last total eclipse of the moon on the winter solstice was 400 years ago and the next one will be in 2094, so this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and photograph the event. It was enhanced by snow and extreme cold.
Here are some of the images I captured of this morning's remarkable natural spectacle, shot from Bogton Braes, the hills rising to the south of Comrie in Perthshire, Scotland. Despite the extreme cold, I stayed long enough to see the rising sun's rays colour the hills to the west and north with a rosy glow.
